The most important difference between AutoCAD drawings and other computer graphics is the way the drawing is saved and used. Computer images (non AutoCAD) are bitmaps.

The AutoCAD drawing is a vector image.

Bitmaps are a grid made up of thousands of dots. Bitmap images lend themselves to computers because the monitor screens and printers already talk the language of bitmaps, a map made up of tiny bits.

Each line in the AutoCAD drawing is a mathematical curve. When you click the mouse to start and finish a line, the resulting line becomes a mathematical formula with a point of beginning, an end point, a thickness, a color and a style. We uses AutoCAD to produce full-scaled, layered CAD files, which meet rigid quality control standards established by Almacad.

AutoCAD drawings being made up of vectors are saved as a list of mathematical formulas for each line based on a point of origin. Resolution or scale of the AutoCAD drawing or the details of each individual line or point can be changed without altering the other objects in the drawing. This is why this type of AutoCAD drawing is more useful than a bitmap.
